    Default Red Deer

My first post in this gallery, and it's a Red Deer taken in the UK a couple of weeks ago. The sun had just risen, and I found a family group of Red Deer underneath a group of trees. This female looked up at me briefly, and I got this shot.

Taken with a D300s and 200-400mm f4 VR lens handheld

    Thanks for looking

Hi Oscar, nice opening shot and good to see this image, BIG!

I think you could really punch up the colour on this one, still retaining that early morning look & feel, but just to give a bit more overall depth. I would also suggest depending upon your ethics, remove the rear of the other deer just creeping in. I'm assuming this is Richmond, a great source of reference and you have capture this very nicely.

Just a point of note, but the image is Adobe RGB, for web presentation it is always best to Convert the profile to sRGB which ensures no colour shift. Also if you could add in shutter speed, aperture, ISO any anything else that is key to the shot. The thread below may help you if unclear, however the size limit has increased from 200 to 250k.

If you have any questions just shout, however we look forward to seeing more of your work that I know of and hopefully your participation on other postings too.

    All the best.

    A big welcome here Oscar!
I love the light and mood here...nothing like that first sunlight on some dust or fog from behind the subject...
Nicely framed too with the tree trunk RHS and the leaves on top...

Steve's given some good pointers on enhancing the mood and on colour management.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work here!

    Hi Steve and Morkel

Thanks for your comments. I've converted it to sRGB, and increased the contrast, and the saturation. Is this better?

I like it even more now.
Now, as Steve would say, the important question...what do YOU think?

Hi Oscar, yep certainly better and if a few pointers helps move the image in the right direction that you are happy with, then great. I was thinking along the lines of this, trying to get more detail out of the BKG to give, as I said, more depth. Colours are a bit too strong, (perhaps ?), adjusting that isn't a problem, but doing this remotely as I'm away, but hopefully you can see what I mean about trying to extract more info from the image that is there. Also took the rear deer out too, looks cleaner I think?

    cheers
