Hi! My names Jerry from Wilmington, Delaware, USA. After a 35 year absence from still photography, I rekindled my interest and have focused on bird photography - mostly at Bombay Hook NWR here in Delaware. I had been doing video for the past 15 years.
For my birthday this past May I bought myself a Panasonic GH2 with Lumix G Vario 100-300mm. Please don't throw stones at me as I know this setup does not have a great reputation for wildlife photography. It is, however, very nicely portable and I believe (imho) I've captured some nice images with it.
Here's a short slideshow of some recent work in case anyone is interested: Jerry's Short Slideshow
Welcome to BPN, Jerry! You'll learn a lot here; and it's not the camera that takes the photo, it's the photographer. I myself have an Olympus SP-550 UZ, which is an ultrazoom camera, but I've taken some halfway decent bird photos with it. Looking forward to your participation!
Hi Jerry, welcome to BPN!! Yes, it's the photographer more than the gear, but sometimes we all get caught up in "gear envy" though. Nice slide show, the foxes look great!
Belated welcome, Jerry. I have been looking recently at micro 4/3 as a portable option to my Canon 7D (I went backpacking a few weeks ago with the 7D and some glass and boy was it heavy!). Your BCNH image may have sold me! I lived in Philly for years and worked in Wilmington (AI duPont Hospital), but never made it to Bombay Hook. I'm going to need to check it out next time I go visit my wife's family in Philly.
