Lovely subject and direct gaze.
BG is very busy though and does detract. I would clone out that bit of branch by the face and along the back to give the bird some breathing room,

I cannot remember seeing one of these before so thanks for sharing. Unfortunately it is in the typical Kingfisher undergrowth, not much you could do about that.

It's a great looking bird but as an avain photo this one doesn't quite work. the bird head is soft and the BG is too busy, the harsh overhead light did not help either.
tough subject hope you can nail it next time!
