    Default Seal in the surf

Photographed this grey seal in cold November at Donna Nook in England.
Lying in uncomfortably wet sand, splashed by incoming waves and bloody cold after some hours, even if i had nice weather with sunshine.

    EF 70-200 2,8 IS L + 1,4TC at 280 mm

    F6 / 1/1000sec / ISO 200

Processed in RPP + PS cropped to 60 % of FF to get the desired composition

if someone asks to go tighter, not in this case due to IQ.

    Hope you like it

    C&C welcome as always.

Ah, the idilic colour of the North Sea, not quite that lovely turquoise colour of the Florida water is it.

I like the way the seal breaks through the waves, perfect timing & focus, almost posing for you. I had thought about cropping the lower tide water out, but I think each sections makes up a nice 'layering' to the image. Perhaps a slight levels adjustment say 245 might help, but without blowing the whites, WDYT?

Thanks Chas and Steve, for watching and leaving comments.

Steve - just tried your wish of not blowing the whites - and what a surprise it works a bit better.

    RP - WDYT ?

    Cheers Andreas

Repost works even better than the OP. Good advice from Steve. Love the way the seal is breaking through the wave. The water sprays work very well. You have so many elements of the environment here with the foam in the foreground, the wave, the water spray, the ocean in the BG as well as the sky. I do like your choice of comp and want to see the foam included.

Indeed but probably could suggest a few other 'tweaks' if I was back home, however if you think it has helped then that's fine by me.

    Hi Andreas.
Love the splash and the quirky look of the seal.
    Hate the water colour.
    Image has strong graphic appeal.

    Hence this repost. WDYT???

    Morkel,

A surprise for you I hope!
This is a vast improvement on the original IMHO.

Thanks to all viewers and the guys who leave a comment.

Morkel - nice work in B/W , but as many times i say ,i prefer the color version of images, as long they do not have a real strong graphical appearance. Can you just tell me, why you "hate" the colors of the water ?

    Cheers Andreas

Sorry Andreas, probably too strong choice of words, meant to be a word-play on using "love" before it...just meant I don't like the water colour, not much you could do about it I know
