Photographed this handsome dude at the Bronx Zoo last week. Have been trying to get some decent images of the Silverbacks , but have never been successful until now. Finaly got some that I was happy with. Luck was on my side as it was overcast , which I feel is ideal light for these. Shot through the thick glass is always a problem on bright , sunny days.

    Hey Joe,

Pretty cool pic, and the clarity is fabulous taken through glass.

Hi Joe, looks like one cool guy and very laid back. Certainly having an overcast day has helped, reducing any highlights or hotspots. Love that leather, lived in look of the face and a chest most of us would envy The crop works, but might have wished for a look to camera, but no deal breaker. Again, not knowing how far you could have pushed the ISO, but a bit more DOF for the face might have helped, if you were able to, even for this, I might have used a tripod just to lock it down and use a cable release for some extra comfort as I guess the subject wasn't planning to move in a hurry. I like the colour rendition, but have you thought about going B/W, think it might have the edge and perhaps more impact for this awesome character. BTW the image is not sRGB, which is ideal for web presentation.

Just thinking out loud here Joe and offering some additional thoughts you may not have considered, as I think this is part of any Forum critique, or to pose a thought or question. This is done remotely so not as spot on as I might wish for, but you might like to give it a whirl yourself with more accuracy.

Look forward to more, but if you go back again and have a longer lens, then some nice close-ups, or detail shots might be also worth consideration too.

I like them both but think I have to opt for Steve's B&W. The details you were able to to acquire here are pretty amazing, down to that vein in its chest.

Both versions work for me, but lean to the B&W.
