Ah, the much-maligned Canada Goose, exquisitely beautiful in the right light but despised and even culled. The sweetness of humanity! But anyhow I took this picture yesterday morning while waiting on some b.g. gnatcatchers who never showed up! This picture was taken with the Canon 7D and 70-300L at 300mm. iso500, 1/400, f5.6. This is the full-frame capture. As always, I will eagerly welcome your comments and suggestions. Please do not overlook the common birds. If I had a motto, it might be something like that, although I suppose I'd put a little more effort into the motto's syntax and so forth. Thanks, friends!
Jack I have a ton of Canada geese shots mate. :). Personally I love them. Here in NZ we don't exactly have a lot of bird species to pick from and these are just so wonderful to see here. They are breeding well, in some cases too well, but what a sight to see them flying in.
A very stately bird Jack - just a pity you lost his feet!!! A very popular bird in wildfowl collections, introduced into the Uk around the beginning of the 1900's. Unfortunately many escaped - you can't blame them - and they are now breeding in the wild very successfully. Being a big powerful bird they have very few natural predators here.
Many thanks for the comments and goose-related stories, folks. I really appreciate your good words. Melvin, I'd add that I have some frames with the fellow's feet but prefer the shots w/o them as I enjoy seeing the good goose ensconced by the luscious greens...for the same reasons I am reluctant to crop much from the bottom. But you folks are SMART and I shall certainly put your ideas to the test. All good things, yes yes. Many thanks...
Thanks Alan, I'm glad you do. Your Alaskan images are making me crazy! Alaska is my dream country, so to speak, and I'll get there some day. I dream of Alaska and its marvelous species...
