Nice pose and head angle on the bird Richard. I am not too fond of the perch, but as you said - it is what it is. I don't mind the dappled background, but it would have been nice to have centered the bird on a more uniform portion of it - I find the heavy, black spot in front of the breast distracting.

Are you sure on the ID Richard? That thick, heavy bill suggests a Great Kiskadee to me rather than a White-ringed Flycatcher.

    Thanks Jeff

true re bill, they are sometimes not easy, worse in Panama with Greater and lesser Kiskadee.
never mind I like them too! Again when downsizing to jpeg the image has darkened ; looks fine in PS.
Unfortunately taken from a restricted platform with little room to manouver

Lovely looking bird, enjoy their colors. I agree with perch and busy BG TFS.

Super sharp image, excellent exposure showing the colors perfectly...not fussed either way about the perch, I look at the bird and the background to me is not drawing my eye away from the bird....however, yes the dark patch next to the breast is a bit eye catching.
