    Carl,

I am renting the 300 II 2.8 for 10 day and plan to post a few shots tomorrow with the 2X and tripod (weather permitting). I really like this post, nice DoF highlighting the two subjects,..the young open mouth makes the shot. Great story telling with the camera and field technique with the Kayak. Steady hands holding 600MM,.. might be an opportunity to increase ISO a bit with the 5D III and boost shutter to help sharpness . FYI,..I am told it can support higher speeds might practice and report back on this one. You could work/lighten the eye a bit; well done here,..great moment I love these birds - keep em coming.

Real nice action shot on the tern. Love the wing position. Also love the young one waiting for his food.

What bothers me the most though, is the out of focus bird in the lower right corner in front of the
young one. We'll see what others think, but I'd be inclined to crop all of the terns out and just leave
    the one in flight.

Hi Carl, I'm a little late to this thread but I wanted to comment. You have a really nice concept here in wanting to capture the feeding behavior, but the out of focus elements in both the foreground and background definitely pull the eye away from the story. The eyes on the birds are dark and need a catchlight. Your exposure is good and you did a great job on the capture. I know how hard these birds are to photograph!
