    Default Bad hair day

I am having a blast at Bonaventure with Jeff (Cashdollar). Working of course but we always make a little time for images.

We have had a very hot, dry summer but this week it decided to be wet. The gannet chicks (what is left of them as it is a poor breeding season) are suffering. This is a head shot with I guess the worst head angle known to man and woman (no eye contact, back of the head).

This is posted here because I wanted this effect and I knew that NIK Colo(u)r Efex would do it. I applied the Detail Extractor. Also cropped and sharpened.

John, this is fantastic. It looks like a microscopic pollen or something. I bet the gannets are something to see.

Thanks Cheryl. Yes I think if I had not said what it was, the guesses would have been all over the place!

I wouldn't have thought it was a bird, it looks like a plant! Very cool image! I like the colors and the added detail makes it more interesting.

I thought it was a cactus. Great image, John!

John, congrats on capturing the elusive Gannet Cactus! Really interesting perspective, which is pretty much out of the box. I am sorry to hear of the poor breeding season and suffering chicks. I have to believe that this is at least partly due to the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.

Really is a wild image, never would have guessed what it was....some day hopefully we'll get out there together, John.
