Default Places to go in orlando

If this is not the correct forum to post, please move it to the right place.

Hello from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

I'll attend the PDN Photoplus Expo at the Javits center (October 23-25).
I'll stay in NYC until November, 6 when I leave to Orlando.

I'm looking for some places to shoot birds and wildlife.
Probably I'll buy the 70-300L or 100-400L there and will be my
biggest lens. So far I found:
    - birdwatching in Central Park
    - Central Park Zoo
    - Brooklyn Botanic Gardens
    - New York Botanical Garden
    - Bronx Zoo
    - Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge

Any tips about the places, safety, how to get there, best times and so on
    are welcomed.

When in Orlando I intend to rent one of the big Canon guns (300mm,500mm,600mm) to have a
taste of it. Suggestions of places, safety, how to get there, best times and so on
are also welcomed. I'll have a car there.

    Thank you.

    Hi Fabio:

October is not the best time for photography in Florida, at least in my opinion. Your best bets at that time are probably:
[FONT=Trebuchet MS, arial, times]Circle B Bar Reserve, 4399 Winter Lake Road, Lakeland, FL 33803. You can easily google this park and find directions and lots of information. You can download a map or pick one up while you are there.

Fort DeSoto Park, 3500 Pinellas Bayway South, Tierra Verde, FL 33715. There is also a lot of information about this park on the internet. It is probably one of the most popular places to photograph birds in Florida. It may be a good time for photographing the birds migrating south. The place at the Park to photograph the migrants would be the infamous Mulberry Tree area, and all shorebirds is either at North Beach and/or East Beach. You can find a lot of information on line about this park. If you wait until closer to the time you are going to be there, we can give you much more information on what's going on in the area.

There is also Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and Vierra Wetlands on the East Coast but I am not too familiar with these areas and not sure how much activity there is at this time of year.

The best advice I can give you at this time is to wait until mid-October and ask again what's going on in the area. This info should give you a good start.

Thank you. I will give the topic a heads-up in October buy it's good to know how far the places are from where I will be. And to research about them.
