Haven't had a chance to get out and really try the D800 yet but here's a 70% crop at ISO 1600. Cloned out a small branch in the LRC, NR on BG, small amount of sharpening on the bird. I am happy!

I bet you're loving your new D800 Dan! Congrats on the upgrade!. Detail holds up remarkably well with the large crop. I like the placement of the bird against the blue in the BG. Not crazy about the amount of OOF perch, particularly on the left side of the frame.

IQ is pretty amazing considering the big crop! Not crzay about the oof perch and BG. Bird needs some more sharpening IMHO.

Thanks, guys. I agree about the perch and the sharpness here. The image seems to have lost a bit of sharpness when posted.

Here's a larger version. Maybe too much sharpening? http://naturestoc.smugmug.com/Birds/...1302500-XL.jpg

Hi Dan, I like the pose, and yes, the detail looks good for a large crop, and high ISO.

I love the way the highlights in the background compliment the pose of the bird.
As mentioned the out of focus perch takes up too much of the foreground.
The light is a bit harsh for my taste but on the other hand the harsh light brings out the texture in the feathers.

very nice pose and excellent details makes a big difference compared to the noisy D300!

The sharpened version looks much better too. agree perch was not the best

That's some great IQ. ISO 1600 looks great! I agree that the only thing detracting from the image is the left side of the perch. It might be the exposure - a bit too bright - or the the fact that it's very out of focus. Otherwise, great shot!

That's different, liking the blue behind it, rather arty.
