    Default Yellow-billed Duck

My daughter and I had a brief morning opportunity to drop in to Stu's local pond as we passed through Pretoria recently. I was targeting a high-key image of a Yellow-billed duck to complement the Red-billed teal I had got last year http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ed-billed-Teal . Fortunately the light and duck co-operated.

Great high-key duck, Tony. I like this very much. Personally, I'd crop a little off the top and add a little to the bottom. The duck is a little tight for my taste, but of course I like the photo very much as-is. Great duck! Great whites!

    Tony,

This is a great duck, very sharp and I love the colors, looks good in white. But I do not understand how you can pick in advance what you want to photograph and then actually get the photo!

Thanks Laurie. Knowing the venue and lighting/BG conditions and what lives there helps but mainly lots of luck. I took a lot of images and this was the only one that caught what I was after

High Key indeed, and a very nice looking one, duck is standing out very well, and the fine detail is extra good, loving the splash of blue on the rear

    Tony:

Well executed image. Sharp, well exposed, great pops of color form the speculum and bill. Nice angle in frame, head turn.

Not too shabby of detail for ISO 3200, but that is what I expect from that camera ( when properly operated as evidenced here!)

Did you need to run any NR?

    Cheers

Hi Tony, just love the colour of the YB against the high key BG. The YB seems pretty chilled out, nice low angle and HA, and nice and sharp too.

Were you standing on the lower part, or had you been chased up to the top already.
