From the Morro Bay IPT last early April. Canon 800mm f/5.6 L IS with the EOS-5D Mark III. ISO 400. Evaluative metering probably at +1/3 stop: 1/2000 sec. at f/7.1 in Manual Mode. Aidan and I found a pair bathing in a shallow creek that led from a pond to the ocean.

One sensor directly below the central sensor/AI Servo Rear Focus Surround. Learn everything that I know about the 5D Mark III including my favorite AF Area Selection modes here.

Great bathing action, Artie. Blacks look great and I love the water droplets. I would take some off the bottom since there is too much dead space there for me and a sliver off of the right. I feel it's a tad too centered as is, and a slight change in comp might render the action/behavior more powerful. Hope to see and photograph this species some day.

Thanks Marina. Great suggestion on the crop: I used exactly what you described when I posted a Glow 100 Fract of this image here in OOTB.

    Artie:

The bright orange bill, eye ring, and yellow iris really pop from the dark plumage and background.

Agree about the crop suggestions from Marina.

    Cheers

Hi Artie, excellent exposure on the blacks, and as Randy stated, the colours really stand out against the black plumage. Good angle captured, and the flying droplets add interest. Another vote for some off the bottom.

Love that eye !...well controlled exposure which is obvious with the detail retained in the blacks, sharp as a tack !
