Default Red Bulls - Tsavo West

We sat at a water hole in the Rhino Sanctuary in Tsavo West when these bulls came to the water to drink, the sun was already behind the mountains, but the light was still good. They hesitated for a while before approaching the water hole.

    Nikon D90, Nikon 20-400mmF4 VRI
ISO 400, F4, 1/200SS. Cropped from the sides and the top. Sharpened in PS. Increased the saturation a bit.

Hi Riaan, firstly the image has an untagged profile ie it's not sRGB and therefore may not be displayed at it's full potential. If you need any help, shout as I've just sorted it for Saurav.

However, looking at the image the first suggestion would be a 1.96 CCW rotation, just did it, so I know the approximate amount . If you do and then re crop I would allow more space above if you have it, it's a little tight for me at present, plus perhaps a little more space to the left to avoid the 'central' position. Although the colour does look vibrant (and this maybe due to not having the correct profile), it does have the same 'look & feel' to Samburu with the red dirt/dust so no worries, but perhaps just a slight reduction? The best way will be if we can set the profile then judge, but no deal breaker. I think the subjects could also do with some more select USM which in turn would help define more that lovely caked on mud & dust that helps magnify the textures in the face and trunk.

Rotation, more room to the left side, tweak it. What I like; love the head on stop dead in the tracks look, eyes are visible, red dirt is a real big plus for me.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks, I think I got the profile sorted, if not, please let me know. I also rotated it as suggested - cropped slightly less.

I think I got the profile sorted,
Sadly not, will drop you a PM. Re the crop, that's better, but can you include the 'road' part too, it's just too tight now at the bottom.

    Riaan,

Nice red Elephants, whatever the profile is it still looks OK to me. A little more room at the bottom would have been great.

I love the red elephants of Tsavo, this brings back so many memories. Would agree on trying to include a little more of the foreground and possible a fraction more sharpening on the elephant faces, but nothing much else. You mention that you've increased saturation in processing, not sure whether this is entirely necessary but very nice image.

Nice frame filler while still keeping the surroundings. Interesting to see the two different sizes.

Beautiful shot. I like the different size and the right elephant being bigger. The color of them is amazing.

This is very nice Riaan. Love the red earth on them. I agree on needing a hint more space at the bottom in your repost.
Colour profile isn't an issue if you view in certain browsers, but to ensure all viewers of your image everywhere see the same image, it's best to standardise on sRGB.
