This is a Red Shouldered Hawk chick. The image was created here in Bonita Springs this week. Their nest fell out of a Royal Palm tree and two chicks died. A basket was attached to a Queen Palm about 8 ft off the ground and the surviving chick was placed in it. The parents have fully taken to the new nest and the chick is doing very well.
Totally priceless. Was this image made when the nest was on the ground? No matter, it is killer. Sharp as can be and I love that the irises have not gone dark. A half step to the right would have given a bit more separation between the twig (??) and the left side of the chicks head. Love the light, the COMP, and the sharpness.

The photo was taken while they are in the new basket nest. I'm using an 8 ft ladder with my camera on sandbags ontop of a porch roof that puts me right in line and about 20 ft away from them. In this photo you can see the basket and ropes holding it up. Rod
Hey Rod, I love this one but when I went to nominate it for IOTW I realzied that I should have moved it over to HOM a while back. WIth apologies.
