Default Common Moorhen amongst Lotus leaves

    Hello friends

This I think is my first post in this sub-forum. I am trying to provide all the required information. if there is anything missing, do remind me of that.

    Nikon D90
    Nikkor AF-S 300 f/4
    Handheld
    Shot at early afternoon.
    f/5.6, 1/500

This was not a captive bird, neither did I use any means to draw it near to me.

This image is cropped to 3.26MP from original.

I love the habitat here, and I think keeping a higher vantage point worked to your advantage to show it nicely. I actually wish the red flower was not there though, and the IQ seems to be suffering from the large crop. Well exposed for the strong light, and well composed too.

    Roy:

Good points from Daniel. The red flower does compete with the bird for our attention. Normally I do like to have repeating colors in an image, but the flower is big enough and vivid enough that it competes too well with the bird for our attention.

Welcome to Avian, a fine place to learn and grow as a nature photographer!

    Look forward to more.

    Cheers

Thank you Daniel and Randy for our valuable input. After composing and seeing the final shot, I also felt something in the photo which somehow does not gel perfectly, but could not pin point it out. You have rightly identified that.
Regarding IQ, what loss is apparent in the photo? Please clarify on that.

    Thanks again
