    Default Great Spotted Rosefinch

    Great Spotted Rosefinch (Carpodacus severtzovi)
The temperature was around -10C and an icy wind was blowing. We were at Gorakshep, near the Everest base camp at an altitude of about 5200 m. I stepped out of our lodge to start walking down towards Lobuche when I saw this Great Spotted Rosefinch happily enjoying the weak sun. It was very confiding and it let me approach to within 10 meters.

    Somendra:

A big welcome to BPN. A great place to learn and grow as a nature photographer.

Nice look back pose, head could be a few more degrees our way for stronger sense of eye contact.

Sharp, with good depth of field.

    Soft background.

From a comp. standpoint, is a bit crowded into lower corner. More canvas might help that if available.

Please be sure to include your camera/lens details, and post processing details as well.

    Look forward to more.

    Cheers

    Randy

Somendra, Your white text is very difficult to see. Could you use black? The Rosefinch is quite nice and the soft subtle browns of the background is perfect.
5200 m is a really, really high altitude! I know I would not have enough breath to even lift my camera!

Terrific bird with a lovely frosted look to the plumage. Perfect techs, and a beautiful background. I agree with a better head angle, and I think this would have been better balanced as an horizontal composition with less above, a bit more below, and more at right.

P.S. I changed the font to black as it was invisible against the page's white backing (thanks Nancy!)

Welcome aboard. Must have been quite thrilling up there.

nice details, exposure, BG and shooting angle. I am afraid the aqaure composition is not working for me here. A traditional composition will be better IMO. The room on top is not adding a lot. It does seem a bit cramped in one corner. Shot is excellent...a different crop and you have a fine image.

Thank you all for the warm welcome to this forum and for the valuable critiques.

Yes Kaustubh, it was a great trip. Have put up an illustrated blog of the visit, and also a gallery of images of Mt. Everest and other peaks, on my website. Do have a look if you are interested :-).
