    Default Bear Fight

It was a privilege to witness the dramatic bear fight in water. Every push between the bears created a huge splash of water droplet and produced a sound that's so deep like a drum. Such powerful animals. I was in a Shootthelight ultimate brown bear workshop in Katmai National Park few days ago. We had a day of photoshoot that's very memorable, when the light, bear action, etc, all came together. I was kneeling down in deep water, with Chas beside me, both freezing our butt off, trying the best to keep the lens as low as possible. My whole body and teeth were shivering like crazy, not sure its due to the cold water or the in-your-face encounters with the mighty brown bears.

1D Mark IV, 500mm f4, f5.6, 1/1600s, ISO 800. (At times I thought about swapping my Mark IV with Chas's 1DX when he's not paying attention)

    Tin Man,

This is a remarkable image, great action and the detail is perfect.

Your "suffering" was definitely very worthwhile

Awesome! Worth the dip into the freezing water. Love the mist of water droplets. Great capture.

The look on the left side bear is incedible! A good image of the power these bears have. I feel I am right there with them. A very accomplished image.

This is WAAAY intense, Tin Man!!
Must've been awesome, it's great when you can capture images like this but still know that the memories of the experience are even more dramatic and vivid.

It may be my tired eyes, but perhaps it might be worth it to try and tone down the sharpness of the droplets around them? I know it's hard for those that fall over their bodies...

Great point, Morkel! Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe I should mask the area of the droplets and just sharpen the other area. I never knew how to deal with it. In addition, I found that if my photo has a lot of water splash in it, the file size is usually a lot bigger. For example, I saved at quality 30-40% for this photo to fit the 200kb limit. Wonder if you have any good suggestion. The higher quality version looks more natural.

Well, I would sharpen the bears only, and apply less sharpening to the areas where there are droplets-over-bearskin...
Also - take note that upload limits have been increased to 250kb, it's been like this for a while!
