This fine fellow is now almost as big as his parents, and spends more time on his own, practicing to become independent. Imaged in northern Michigan about two weeks ago.
D4 600VR f/5 1/500s ISO 1000 fil flash with better beamer, -2.0 EC . Camera mounted in bottom of my little boat, the Loonie TOO.
Post: CS5 , selective sharpening, minor canvas expansion on right. Detail extractor on breast
I love everything about this except that I want more surrounding water, more background. That's my advice: if you have more, use it! An exceptionally beautiful young loon. Isaac Newton would even be proud!
Well, either way, it's heavenly! Lucky you: you are the loonmaster. I've never seen one up close but I'm told if I can get over my fear of small vessels you can breeze right up to them...in a canoe, a rowboat, a kayak, perhaps even a pedal boat? Some day...
A most unusual pose with the leg back...a member of the synchronized swimming team maybe . I cant think of anything to improve this one, maybe a bit more darkening on the head region....but then again I have no idea how this bird is meant to look.
Lovely soft plumage textures on the young bird, Randy. Obviously relaxed with the leg stretch. I would also prefer a little more above to lower the bird a little in the frame. Nice low angle really gives a lovely BG with the 600.
Hi Randy, love the casual swimming pose with the outstretched leg, and you have brought the fine detail nicely. Fill flash looks great, and I like the contrast between the Loon and the darker BG. Im fine with the comp as is.
