    Default Another Pied Kingfisher

Another image from our Pilanesberg trip with Stu. BG is distant hillside with brown winter grasses.

LR4, CS6 - uncropped image - I should have run lens profile correction to brighten the slightly vignetted corners. The plumage detail in the full res file is amazing but cannot be appreciated at this size.
    Comments and advice appreciated

Hi Tony, nicely perched and alert, and again, your fill flash has worked out well. Mankwe BG's always produce good results.

I havent been back since our visit, but will surely go in the very near future.

Good job on this one. Great BG and perch. Nice use of the flash. Looks like the sun is on your left and needed the fill to be acceptable. Still has some shadowing but still very nice.

Lovely perch and extra smooth backdrop Tony, a bit of fill light worked well it seems, a bit more light on they eye would be nicer, but could also very well be my monitor....no crop = very impressed

    Hi Tony,
Beautiful BG and love the pose and the fact that this is FF!
I feel the flash has given the blacks a bit of a blue/green sheen.
I would crop from the right as well to get rid of the vertical branch as it pulls the eye away from the KF.
    Good shot,
    Gail

    Tony:

Good comments above. I agree with Gail about cropping off the vertical part of the branch.

sharp, nice head position, good use of flash because of light angle. Even a bit more fill would have been nice.

What a jewel that spot seems to be!

    Cheers

Thanks for the opinions and advice. This was a nicely co-operative bird and I have a number of images in this series up to full frame head and shoulder portraits which I will post once processed.
