Love that wing spread! Too bad the action didn't occur when there was a break in the clouds, so you could have had blue with some clouds as your background. (if only we could always order up the "perfect" background ) I might experiment with cropping a bit more. Maybe a bit off the top, and possibly more to the right side, or another possibility, crop the right side into where the last branch starts extending to the edge of the frame. I will admit that cropping is a weak area of mine, so not sure if either would work better for you. Very nice capture!
I like the picture, nice post what a powerful bird and busy building to help the economy along. Not sure a Better Beamer would have helped but do you carry flash, some fill would help the image. Of course, you can target fill light in LR or PS and work the eye and wings a bit. Regarding the crop always subjective but I would probably remove the triangle of sky in the BRHC - cloning in additional tree is another option. Suggest you take a piece of paper and place against the screen and play with options. The exposure techs are on the right track adding EV when the sun is not bright is correct maybe a bit more. How did the histogram look, was it clipped on the left?
Nice post processing in LR,.. I usually push clarity to about 30 (poor mans sharpening) but this looks good. I do not have 4.1 do you like it?
You captured a great moment in nature, nice field techniques using the kayak - keep em coming - well done.

Jeff,
Thanks for the advice. Yes I like 4.1 much better than 3. No, the histogram was not clipped on left, but is close. In general it is low until it gets to the 75% position than peaks and drop-off quickly to the right.
