Default Kestrel coming in to land...

    Attached Images Attached Images

Here is one of my first images using the Canon 1D-X. I have only had it two days but it is starting to click into place.

This is a European Kestrel taken this morning, whilst adjusting some of the Auto Focus settings.

    Canon 1D-X, 800mm, f5.6, 1/6000 and ISO3200. Yes 3200 on a Canon...

    Cheers

Very nice pose of a difficult small raptor to get close too.
I really like the BG color and iso3200 looks fine although at 1/6000,
you could have a lot lower ISO, and still been fine speed wise.

    Sorry Dan,

Finger trouble my end. It was 1/1600 SS not 1/6000.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Terrific pose and amazingly no noise at 3200! Great Bg.
I wish the birds right side was better lit around the eye and would do a bit of dodging,

Awesome pose! Dynamic image.Must have been a predictable behavior? With this type of image, I love to hear howa photographer was able to anticipate this type of action....?

Fills the frame nicely, great colors too, the wingspread and light shining through is excellent

    Austin,

This is very nice and even at this resolution seems too show good promise for the 1DX.

I got mine on Saturday, but here in SA they forgot to put in the manual, and it is bit too large to print. So slowly setting it up as I think it could work, any advice would be welcome.

No chance to use it yet as it is freezing cold and raining, not something we are that used to over here

    Cheers

    Ken

Hi Shawn, The bird was flying down to some roadkill. Fortunately, every time a car used the road the Kestrel flew away. Soon after it would return again and so the cycle repeated. The breaks caused by the traffic allowed me to do some checks and adjustments before it reappeared.

    Very fortunate and totally unplanned.

    Thanks for your interest

Awesome pose. Wonderful action shot and great IQ for ISO 3200, the 1DX really delivers at this ISO settings. Markus

Lucky you! But even cooler that you were able to capitalize so well... (skills evident).
    Thanks for the insight.
