    Default Temminck's Courser

Lake Natron, Rift Valley - Tanzania

Nella, our oldest daughter spotted the courser in the short grass on our way to the lake, I had a very impatient safari driver behind me, while I tried to photograph the bird. Late afternoon in good light, background quite busy.

    Nikon D90, Nikon 200-400mm F4 VR
    F4, S/S 1/1250, 200 ISO, cropped quite a bit & sharpened in PS.

    Crits & comments welcome.

Nice pose and perch, light looks good. The IQ is not great looks quite soft, white on the legs are also lacking detail... not sure what the RAW looks like but may be worth a re-visit.

Good points made above. Fine looking species. Very sweet looking bird.

I love being introduced to a new species.
    Good composition and pose.
IQ ,as mentioned, has suffered from crop.
I am OK with the BG but would do a bit of Gaussian blur to get rid of the ground glass appearance.

    Riaan,

This is for me at least a rare sighting so well captured, as Dumay suggested revisiting could be very worthwhile.

Hi Riaan, good shooting angle from a vehicle, and you got yourself a nice pose. IQ mentioned, and some NR on the BG wont harm the image.

Thanks guys, IQ is not to hot, can't do a lot about that now. Personally I would have liked to get lower, get the bird clear from the background. But the safari driver was putting a lot of pressure on me to get out of the way. I have another image which is slightly sharper, I will process a post.
