Default A fine tern among the sky and foliage

Fine folks, here is a picture of a common tern, taken with the Canon 7D and 70-300L at 216mm. The image here on display accounts for approximately 78% of the original capture. Specifications are these: iso800, 1/3200, f5.6. I'll welcome your thoughts with an open brain and easy heart!

Tern looks good with a fine banking pose. Not in love with the BG trees as I find them to be distracting.

I really like the banking pose.
Terns are so hard to get good pictures of.
I would prefer this as a vertical but then image would lose IQ due to such a bigger crop.
Personally, I find that for tern pictures to turn out well you need to fill 50% of your frame with bird. Otherwise the detail and IQ just aren't there.

Agreed, Gail, more or less. Okay fine, MORE! But I am awfully fond also of "small-sized" tern shots like these. Many different ways to skin a tern! Delicious!

Nice angle on the Tern & HA.
I have been shooting allot of Terns lately and know how hard it is to get one with the exact wing and head position to the sun. When you do it lights up like this one. Good Job.
I agree with Gail about the 50% or more in the frame to be even an acceptable crop size but I also like the right wide shots as you do .

Taking whats been said before a nice capture of the tern. I have sat for hours surrounded by these only to be fooled and failed to get one shot!
Jack - youre a star, but you know that already lol

Hi Jack, good banking pose from the Tern, and well exposed on the head and eye. I feel, a vertical would be the only way to go in this.

Hi again my vertical friends. Although I see your point, I wouldn't want to lose the foliage on the left. Although it does nothing for you, I am most fond of it! Anyhow, I do see your point RE the vertical orientation and thank you sincerely for your time and efforts!
