I got lucky this spring and found a marsh with a pair or two of YHBBs. This was the king of the marsh and he would sit on this dead snag and chase everything off.

He would also do some beautiful calling with that raspy call of theirs and his head thrown way back. Fun bird to hang out with on a Sunday morning.

Thanks again for looking and for the warm welcome to this forum.

    This is lovely.
    Great BG- check
    Perfect HA- check
    Excellent IQ and exposure- check
I like the ruffled chest feathers . The white feathers look good too.
I would add a bit more on the top to make this more of a vertical and less boxy,
    Gail

I like the perch, exposure, and the background. I'm not a huge fan of the crop, and would make this into a more typical vertical crop, and also sharpen the bird more.

Nice pose and colours. For vertical I usually crop as 8"x10" and it works most of the time.

Thanks allot Gail for the nice comments. Thanks Ryan and Karl also. Here is a vertical. Also even though the origional is very sharp, I added some sharpening for the Web. What do you guys think.

Beautiful!! The square crop worked OK IMO, but the repost is better. I love simple image designs like this. Great pose with a perfect head angle (HA) and I dig the ruffled throat feathers. It's always best to add some sharpening for web, so good on ya to do so.

Thank you very much Daniel. These critiques mean allot to me coming from very competent wildlife photographers. Thanks for the advice on sharpening too. I was afraid that it would degrade the image but it looks unhurt.

Hi David, excellent exposure on two difficult colours, and you have capture a good pose and HA. Good DOF, sharp, and I like your smooth BG. I prefer your repost - well done.

I do like the repost better but the square crop worked also. Lovely pose, angle, colors and details on this one.
