I wasn't sure whether I should post this or not as I don't think it will be to most people's tastes. However, so that you know why I've processed it this rather harsh way I'll give you the sad tale. My one and only caracal sighting, in the Mara Reserve, early morning when it was foraging in the bushes. I didn't get anything clear of bushes or out of the shade but in this shot it did have a natural vignette which I found worked better in b&w, the colour being very washed out. So I look at it as a more graphic design and I've kept the grain as NR would be pointless, turning it into a smooth bleh!

It isn't something I would print or sell, just trying to find different ways to present images which haven't much going for them in standard processing and because I may never see a caracal again.

The heavy foliage certainly does distract somewhat, but it has created a rather nice vignette with this B&W conversion Hilary.
But let's not be too picky here, this is a sight we don't often see and is to be savoured.

Thanks Marc for your generosity … trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear is problematic but somedays you just take what you can get.

    Hilary,

A "typical" Caracal sighting, why dies it always happen?
I find the bright centre just a little too bright.

Ken, I could possibly tone it down but I don't think the image warrants any more effort sadly. Just have to keep trying to find another one.

Well jolly good luck in your search, I hope I get another chance as well, in good light and with a good background

Hi Hilary, firstly great to see you back on this part of the Forum and as we can always count on presenting something in a different way.

Not too sure how much you can critique on this, purely because of the choice of medium for me. Certainly because of the starkness it is very 'graphic' and 'striking' and if you have pushed the vignetting then for me, it has worked, funnelling the eye to the subject. If the edges were more irregular it could almost have a Banksy 'look & feel', now there's a thought?

    Hope to see more soon.
