    Default Belted Kingfisher.

I was hoping that one of the Green Herons might land on a half decent perch in this marsh that I visited early in the morning.
This bird flew in for a second. We both got surprised.
This is the only shot I got, as it flew away as soon as she/he saw me there.
Hand held, natural early morning light.
    Thanks for looking.

Sounds like typical scenario for most of my bird shots too....split second timing to get any kind of shot.

I rather like the dappled light on the body with the head in clean light, early morning is great when you can utilize it ...sharp detail, it may withstand a bit more PS sharpening but I thinks personal choice. Exceptional shot especially given the difficulty of an active bird

    Cool shot, Karl.
A very tough species to get sitting still, it stands out well from the background.

Nice capture of a tough species! The bg is busy but the light is nice on the bird. Good HA. This is a male btw.

    Karl,

This is a beauty, the light is wonderful, and the bird is pretty good looking as well.

Very nice for only one frame. Half the time they are OF. The light is pleasing and the wing slightly flared adds to the shot. The BG isnt bad either. At least its not right behind the bird. Good job
