An animal that is not seen in Southern Africa, and I certainly have not seen one before. It is the same species as that found in Asia.

Not exactly full of wow factor, but the best I have got, posted here because it is different.

Taken in Kidepo National Park, Northern Uganda 18th June 2012

Very unusual indeed Ken, nicely spotted, always good to see different species.
As you say, this appears to be a Dhole (Indian wild dog)?

Nice species for that growing "log" of yours Ken.
Read an interesting article in the recent issue of Africa Geographic about how Africa now has its own version of the "grey wolf" after reclassification of another jackal species (I forget which one, not this one).
Nice pose with the open mouth - light looks like it was becoming a tad harsh, but exposure well handled. Might tone down the grass some?

Agree Ken, no dispute that it's a Golden Jackal, but the similarities to the Dhole are uncanny. Should have explained myself more.

I have found golden jackals to be quite hard to photograph, the ones I've seen have been much shyer than the black backed ones we see so much of, so well done. As you say, not a lot of wow factor, but that isn't the only reason we photograph the wildlife we see. Looks to have a full belly.
