The Nsefu pride crossing the Luangwa River fresh on the trail of two daga boys they've spotted that have come down for a drink
after another 100+ deg day as the long hot dry season lingers on.
You can see some footage of this amazing event taken by my guide Patrick with my HD cam, whilst I was firing away with my D3s/500VR combo.

    Hi Marc,
Like this lined up lions on the stalk in a panorama .the image split into three parts works well, as well as colors.
The lions on RHS are a bit tight to the frame , for my taste and the overall image contrast and sharpness looks a bit flat .

    Cheers Andreas

    Marc,

Great composition but I am not sure about the quality as presented here?

Does this look better, exaggerated for presentation purposes

Wow, image being the target of that lot. Love the wide shot. Ken, your post is a bit richer.

Hi Marc, nice to see the procession of lions making heir way across the river. The composition does lend itself to the pano format, however the colour does appear to be rather flat and the detail/clarity is lacking within the image which is probably down to shooting wide open due to the light condition.

    Steve,

Can you explain this statement, I do not know the lens in question, but certainly my Canon lenses do not suffer in the way you describe when wide open.

Ken the comment is very clear and does not need any explanation, or clarification.

I like the line of lions through the water. I think you managed well in challenging light, though it can use some oomph (perhaps midway between OP and Ken's RP?)...
Loved the video! Will have to make a plan for South Luangwa sooner rather than later...

I too really like the graphics of the image, the procession of lions and the BG divided in three parts. Also agree the image look a bit flat or is missing some quality in BG. Is it a bit to light? Otherwise I will let the masters come with PP suggestions.

The video was great. What a night you had there. Those buffalos I think had a bit of hybris. Had they been smarter and not stayed there to mob the lions they could survive, or? Obviously possible there to stay out there after dark?

Appreciate the comments guys, with Ken's RP contrast boost just about there.

What the video didn't show was one buffalo actually escaped free, but returned back to help his mud stuck buddy and thus sealed it's fate.

Lovely scene and nice idea with the crop and comp....I would like to see more contrast and more space on the right behind the right back lion, giving it a bit more room. TFS Marc

    Steve,

I still do not understand, are you saying that you should not shoot wide open in low light conditions. this would certainly go against what I have been advised by some very eminent photographers and my own experience.
