Default White-tailed kite with vole-and a field review for the new 600 MKII

Here is another kite shot and my personal favorite of the series. The whole vole and its visible intact head made this one for me. I also finished my review of the new 600II. you can read it here

You can see a huge file here This is the first time I have rendered so much detail from a flying WTK.

Beautiful light on the upwing and fanned tail, and great view of the vole. In a perfect world I might have liked just a tiny bit more light on the bird's face.

    hi Arash,
just when I think you can't get any better you produce an image like this.
    The HD version is superb.
I really enjoyed your review of the 600 mm. Quick question for you- if a person did not specialize in BIF would the new 500 mm be a good option? I am tempted to buy the new 500 mm for the weight savings. It is fun to do Bif but as I get older I think the lighter weight 500 is a better choice for me.

Beautiful light and great IQ, (the HD is awesome),
it is flying away from you a bit.
It almost looks like you used a spotlight, a very nice effect.

hey Dan thanks, I don't think it's flying "away" from me (the head is parallel to the back of the camera) but the sun was not perfectly behind me so the catchlight is not centered.

    Hi Gail,

Thanks for nice comments. If you are comfortable handholding the current 500 the new 600 will open new opportunities for you but if you feel that's a bit heavy the new 500 is a great choice too! I'm sure a great photographer like yourself can make excellent images with either one!

Striking light and details captured, as it shows especially on the large file, Arash.

    Hi Arash,

This is another outstanding capture. That review looks promising. It is good to see some field tests. TFS

    Arash,

Marvelous action and beautiful deep colours. I've just ordered mine (risking my old age), but will not get it until late August!

Stunning shot as always. This must have been a great day for you in the field with the new toy and such a fantastic bird - and a terrible day one for the mouse :-)
