    This image was made at the Mulberry trees at Ft Desoto were it's next to impossible to get a super clean BG so I was happy to get one thats ok and not obnoxious.

    40D, 500 f/4 IS + 1.4 tc, 1/250 @ f/5.6, aperture priority, evaluative metered -1/3, flash -1 2/3,raw iso 400, tripod, cropped,
    I processed the raw image twice once for the over all image and the second time to pull detail in the blown red highlights along the back and combined both files in PS with layer masks.

    I want one of those in front of my lens! Your PS skills are pretty good I cant see the join anywhere! Nice shot.

    Great sharpness and I like the perch diagional and the overall comp. I think the BG is great, its shows the habitat clearly without being distracting.

    Very nice job of the reds. We had a migrant fallout with over 300 of these tanagers at Grand Isle the other day and I'm still trying to get the reds right. Thanks for posting how you handled it.

    Very nice bird here Don. I don't mind the green BG but I find the OOF pale branches distracting. Perhaps a bit of dodging would make them less obvious.
