This little fellow nearly landed in my lap. I had to wait for it to move away before it was in the working distance of the lens. Quietly sitting in the mud has its rewards (also helps beat the heat). Image obtained yesterday at Market Lake, a local wildlife managemaent area in SE Idaho. The image is not cropped. It may be a bit tight on the left. Nikkon D3s, Nikkor 600mm, f5.6, 1/1600, iso 500, tripod, early morning on a clear day, distance to subject 6.7 meters, Aperature priority, matrix metering. Minimal Photoshop CS5, toning down highlights, brightening shadows, Nik Color Efex 4, noise reduction bg, selective sharpening of subject. C & C appreciated.

Hi Gary....nice work with the feather detail ...especially nice around chest area. The eye is sharp and you have a nice head angle...... the bg is handled well....and I love the rings in the water. they add a nice touch!. Very Nice work! Hope to see more of your work with that 600mm

This is a lovely shot. I'll echo what Bob said and add I love the tone throughout the sandpiper. Very nice!

I really love this photo. You can almost touch his soft feathers. The colours are wonderful and I really like the look of the water. I find these guys hard to get a nice sharp focus on.

Superb Gary. Such a cute guy or gal. Sharp and beautiful light. It wouldn't be too difficult to add some canvas to the left if you feel the need. The only thing I would do is crop out the small bit of the body refection in the water. Spottys have short legs so no danger of cropping the "virtual feet" when you do this. If I did that I might also reassess the crop up top and to the right- you have lots of room there to play with.

Thanks to all for your comments. The repost eliminates the shadow making for a cleaner image. Thanks John.
