Took this in early May in Cape Coral, FL, one morning, when Marina and I went to photograph the burrowing owl chicks together. We never did see this one take off from the perch, but it certainly flapped its wings a few times and seemed to be getting in gear.
Marina supplied the perch and we placed it some distance away from the fenced off area.
Some crop on the right, some levels and curves, sharpening.
Thanks in advance for any and all comments and critiques.

    Hi Melisa,
You have wonderful light and a beautifully exposed owl and a really nice complimentary perch.
    Composition is really good.
I love the detail in the near wing and just wish the left wing was in a slightly better position ie. more underwing visible.
Wish I had one this good!

Such a sweet bird. You caught him posing nicely, and I love the detail. The white balance seems off a bit on my screen, like a yellow cast. Might want to play with that a bit.

Thanks Steve. I was wondering about that. I dropped the yellow down and also desaturated the yellows a touch. Is this better?

Cute little rascal. I like to imagine that it is trying, successfully, to keep from falling off that perch. I'm surprised that at 1/3200 the feathers under its left wing look a bit blurred. I like the soft contrast of the bird's colors with the background colors.

Repost is much better, Melissa. Best part of the image is the pose. Good choice of perch and the spot to place it. Nice job on the underwings.

    Hi Melissa,

Beautiful image. Light, Pose, BG, Sharpness, details and Perch everything is fantastic. I might consider adding some more space at top.

Hi Melissa, well placed in the frame, and I like the 'pre-take off' pose with the outstretched wings ( although you say he never actually took off ) Lots of fine detail brought out on both owl and perch, and although Im not familiar with the colours of the owl, I would have maybe only taken the yellow's out the owl and left the BG in your OP as is.

Melissa - very nice. Pose is great and it has all been said above. Rp looks good to me but it would be interesting to see Stuart's suggestion for comparison.

I love the subject and you did well with it.
A fine opportunity and you did well with the setup perch.
    A great expression.
