Never realised how many different species of kingfishers existed until this forum, this is a stunner Ken..love the perch, love the partially open beak, a little grainy maybe...if I look closely at the screen and squint tightly through my glasses lol.

How in heck do you get close enough for shots of Kingfishers ?...I spend many hours and days trying to get within 30 or 40 feet, and it's a rare occasion I pull it off.

Beautiful shot of a kingfisher that has eluded me on 3 trips to Africa!I am jealous!
I also find the image a bit grainy.
    Lovely BG and perch.
Did you manage to get a shot of his colorful back?

Thanks everybody for your extremely kind comments, but thanks mostly to the Kingfisher for coming close enough and sitting with a clean background.

I agree on the noise I seem to have had quite a bit of trouble with this on my latest trip, perhaps a little plus EV would have helped, but normally with Kingfishers the whites go straight out of the window, not used to dull light in Africa I am afraid
