    Default Puffin Hovercraft

Another one from Machias Seal Island. The puffins fly pretty fast but then hit the brakes and hover as they land. I hope you're not sick of the puffin shots.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

I like your Puffin photos, I wish I had some around!
The head and body look great, in this case for flight, no real reason for f13, with the light you had, a larger aperture would have
given plenty of SS to freeze the wings.
I don't mind the motion blur, but I think sharp wings would look great with this pose.

Dan - I agree. Most of the time I was shooting the puffins on the rocks and if one came in for a landing nearby tried to fire off a shot or two. Just didn't have the time or presence of mind to switch the aperture while shifting to the landing puffin.

    Thanks,
    Rachel

Hi Rachel, the puffin is really popping out the screen in this, and sharp where it counts. I realise your situation with regards to a hide at this location, so I feel you have done well with the light. Looking at the horizon, I would give the image a touch of CW rotation.

    I really like this Rachel.
Agree re CW rotation and Dan's comments.
Very nice pose and I like the dangling feet and visible nails.
I wish for a bit less wing blur on the birds right wing.

Thanks everyone. Don't know why I didn't catch that horizon. Here's a repost with it straightened.

    Thanks again,

    Rachel,

Very nice indeed as to whether the wings should be frozen or blurred I think that either way would be perfectly OK for me.

like the image a lot. with the name of the photo being Hovercraft, the blurred wings and dangling feet are a plus IMO.

    Amazing flight shot, Rachel.
This is the part I miss from my collection; BIF shooting.

Spectacular pose, love the blured wings and blue BG. I would try lighten face slightly for more detail TFS.
