Not Wako on Sunday!

Green Cay was excellent this morning so Al, Fabs, and I will be back there again on Sunday morning. We will not be going to Wakodahatchee as originally planned. This fledgling Green Heron was photographed with the Canon EOS-40D and the 70-200mm f/4L IS lens handheld at 176mm. I just got my hands on a 40D yesterday and am loving it big time... ISO 400. Evaluative metering at 0: 1/1600 sec. at f/6.3. I did lots of clean-up work on the bill mostly with the Patch Tool but also with Quick Masking.

Great details and light, the little feathers sticking out put it over the top for me. The tip of the bill looks a bit less sharp than the rest, which is surprising.

Great picture, Is this one of the three brothers? The only exciting thing at Wako are the least bittern, I locate one of the nest area, but getting a clean shot is almost impossible.

Yes Raul. One of the three but we only saw two. You could pet this one. it was so tame that one of the bitter old walkers swatted the bird to make it fly from the railing (to break up the bird-jam...) He actually hit the bird with its hand. It shifted position but did not fly.

It was my first day out with that rig and I am loving it. Canon will be creating a short video promo for that lens with me sometime in May at the St. Augstine AF where that combo should shine. The files are quite nice. How is the noise with the 40D at the higher ISOs?

Superb detail artie - My 70-200 F2.8L lens sits in the cupboard for most of the time as I tend to rely on the 100-400 for the extra reach (using the 5D body). I may have to dust the cobwebs off the 200 ;)
