Point Pelee in May. Side-lighting was tough, with no ability here to change my position relative to the birds. (I'm sure some fill flash would have helped.) But I enjoyed the chance to see and photograph this species in full breeding plumage.

Hi Bill, good low angle, and good DOF on the Plover. I feel you have done well with the light relative to your position. Im feeling stupid, but what is the Plover standing in - water with bubbles???

Thanks Stuart. This is on "The Tip" at Point Pelee, a gravelly spit of land sticking into Lake Erie. As the wavelets washed the gentle gravel slope and then receded, it caused these small bubbles along the shoreline, for some reason.

    Bill,

Nice capture - I actually like the FG and think it adds interest. The shadows are not too large to distract, you could try image/adjustment/shadows and highlights in PS to bring out a little detail. I would be careful though as sometimes this gives a surreal effect.

I am 1 hr from the point and will make a must do this fall - thanks

    Russ

Excellent image of Black-bellied Plover. Beautiful exposure in side-lights. Love the details and very nice grey BG.tfs.
    Regards.

Thank you all. Russ, that's an interesting idea. I felt the foreground was a little dull, but I didn't want it to compete with the subject so I had done nothing to it. In the repost I've done a little s/h on the fg/bg which darkened the bg a little, and done a bit of dodging and burning on the bird to soften the impact of the side lighting. Taken together these make a noticeable change from the OP. What do you think?
