One of the tens of thousands of snow geese stopping in New Mexico for a bit. Finding "just one" is sometimes the biggest challenge. Lens blur applied to the background to add to the natural blur of the shallow DOF.

Lovely background and action capture. Excellent wing position and tones there! The tone of the body looks a bit muddy on my monitor, and for me, provides too much contrast to the color of the wings for what I would expect to see. Maybe a selective adjustment on the body would bring it closer to the wing color? Very nice shot!

Thank you Jeannean! Your point is well taken regarding the look of the body, so I cleaned it up and brightened it. An excellent suggestion and I appreciate your feedback. Thank you!

Here is what I did to clean it up in PS CS5:

    • using the sponge tool set to desaturate at 66%, I used a small brush to neutralize the yellowish areas
    • switched to the dodge tool, set to dodge the midtones at 14% and brushed over the areas that looked dark

Altogether about 5 minutes, which I should have spent on the first post.

Somehow I missed this one, Kerry. Excellent pose and congrats on getting a BG that isn't obviously cluttered with a zillion more geese. I wouldn't have realized what was wrong with the OP, but the cleanup made a huge difference and I really like this one. I can't wait until November.

"You CAN photo just one" (remember the potato chip slogan?)
Great pose, great background, version 2 shows the white feathers well, version one looked a bit dingy. You desaturated the goose's breast feathers, didn't you? I don't yet speak Photoshop ;)
