The chicks of African Jacanas are hatched and raised by Dad, in this case he had three, who appeared from under his wings. Much too fast to set up as they flitted about in all directions, generally in long foliage, this is the best I could do.

Taken from a small boat on Lake Manze channel, Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania, 5th July 2012.

Sweet as ! If this is the best it's pretty darn good, great natural habitat shot Ken, sharp and eye catching little fuzz ball, one can imagine how difficult it must be for a hatchling to adjust to having helicopter rotors for feet.

Very cute, perhaps a bit too centred but nice nonetheless; feet are great

I have never seen an image of a jacana chick so kudos for the unusual subject matter.
IQ is very good and really good BG considering the environment these guys live in.
I might crop a bit from the right to make him a bit less centered.
    Very nice Ken,

Ken - I'm going to echo the above. Nice image with good IQ but I too would take some off the rhs so that it is less centered.

Thanks everybody, I was totally undecided about the crop so left it full frame. But I definitely that some from the RHS, top and bottom would improve.

    Perhaps like this?

That crop vastly improves it in my opinion, Ken. And it's a very sweet image. You did well getting most of the feet in view.

A fine image! Here is another version with a slightly different crop and some levels and S/H adjustments.

Thanks for the re-post Ofer, whilst I think this looks better it does not reflect the actual conditions at the time which were dull and overcast.

I do not like S/H much as it can cause "halos"

Hi Ken, can you see a halo in here...?
As to the conditions - I can see a catchlight in the bird's eye so light couldn't be that bad.

This is really nice! Fantastic habitat and the DOF gives it a sort of waterworld feel.
    Well done.

Hi Ken, captured nicely in the open, and with a good pose and HA. You have brought out the fluffy detail and colours very well. I really like the overall setting with the lush green foliage, and Ofer's repost puts it up a few notches. Great sighting Ken.

Gorgeous Ken! Ofer's repost and the crop was the way to go.
S/H can cause halos, but the key for me is to make a selection, contract and feather before tweaking S/H. These days I prefer using dodge and burn and lumo masks to do a better job, though.

Thanks everybody for your comments and suggestions.

It seems that both of my posts yesterday have been considered too dark, so I will take a look at my monitor this morning.
