    Default Gull with startfish

I took this image last winter and did not completely finish processing. I looked at it this morning and immediately saw the sky was way oversaturated. (What was I thinking?) Anyway, it made me think of applying a filter to it. I settled on chalk from postworkshop and then finished in PS, mostly with selective color.

It is a good effect for this as Paul said. Very artistic look to it and a good shot to start with by the looks. Nicely done. Maybe just a little more blending around that head area to avoid that dark line, but thats an easy fix.

All the best Allan, great result.

Alan, it looks like a beautiful base image and I really like the colored pencil look. I also like the background colors reflected in the wing area. Nicely done

Allan, I really like the texture and color...I might be tempted to take a little off the LHS, and maybe a sliver from the bottom...your call, it's a strong image as presented. I like Danny's suggestion of perhaps softening/blending the BG a bit around the head. Nice work!

Allan, I love the original capture and the textured background is lovely. I might take a tiny sliver off the bottom too.

The textured bg holds the image together and is just lovely. Coming back to an image after a while often allows us to see how to improve it. To my eye, the gull looks two dimensional, but the starfish looks three dimensional. A mall thing. Very nice work.

Nicely done, Allan. The chosen texture works well with the image. I could imagine a bit off the bottom, but works nicely as posted.

I do agree that the bird is the weakest part of the image. If anyone wants to dl it and play around feel free to do so.
