    Default our provincial bird

I couldn't resist posting one of my favourite, albeit, common species, the Black-capped Chickadee- New Brunswick's provincial bird. Not a completely black and white species but Daniel mentioned that they qualify. Although this is a July theme, chickadees look their best in their Basic, winter plumage, so I offer one up from February. They are amazing birds when you think they can easily withstand a 60°+ C range of temperature from summer to winter.

For this image I cropped from the all sides a little, removed a flash catchlight from the eye, ran NR on BG and sharpened.

Hi John, I really like how you have exposed the little guy, the detail and colours show up nicely. The BG colours compliment the chickadee very well, and if anything, I would maybe blend in the lighter area of the BG above him.

This is a stunning photo, John. You have great details and exposure is spot on with BG that complements your subject. I wouldn't change a thing!

very cool pose and nice sharp details. I couldn't tell if flash was used which means you handled the flash perfectly.

John, simply beautiful...the details, exposure, comp., flash work, BG, head position, the winter feel....wouldn't touch a thing. Perfect. Great job in getting so close.

Thanks everyone. They are great subjects, and challenging until you realise to avoid sun!

@Laurie- You have photographed Cock-of-the-Rock???? This must be THE dream bird for me.

A stunner! I've never photographed one of these guys, even though I see them all over the place. I don't know why. I adore common birds as much as rare ones. You did such a great job here on the blacks and whites, the eye...there's a lot to sing about here...

Very pretty! Perch is the only element that can be improved in here IMHO.
