Sparky my beloved cat friend and family member has passed away.
Family used to be my two sons my wife and I.
Now we have Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren but in reality we are (were) only the five of us; my wife, our three cats and I.
Our children are busy with their life and I see them very rarely.
My wife is on call for babysitting but that's about it.
Here is the short story of Sparky;
Sparky came to our life 17 years and 8 month ago when Tom, our
younger son brought him home from the Humane Society.
He was followed by Sassy from the same place and Bosco from a breeder.
Sparky was the largest, the smartest and the sweetest among the three.
He became my favorite.
His nickname was; purring machine as he purred all the time.
When we moved out on my son, (he bought out previous house) we took all three cats with us.
Sparky had an accident just before last Christmas, and injured his spine.
He started recovering slowly but after a few month, his recovery came to a
halt and he started going down.
His hind legs started giving up on him and his brain got fogged up sometimes.
He lost half of his weight and was in great pain on and off.
(His pupils were greatly diluted in bright light as a sure sign of pain as per Internet)
We had to make the hardest decision of our life; to have him put to sleep. We cry a lot but I know time will heal everything.
He is gone but he will live in our heart forever.
We gave a generous (I think) donation to the Humane Society on behalf of
him, here in Guelph.
Rest in peace Sparky
Karl, I was so sorry to read about your loss. What a beautiful cat he was. And what a long and cherished life he had. I lost a dog once--had to put him to sleep-- and I thought I would never get over it. I'd had him for 17 years. Each day gets just a little bit easier until you find that one day you feel no more pain, only happiness at the memories and the time you had together.
