White-tailed kite with dinner at 840mm
It seems like the raptors are back in business. I had an opportunity to photograph kites today and the new lens really shined. I hope you like this one

1D4 EF 600mm f/4 IS II + 1.4X TC III. f/8 1/3200sec ISO 800

Another stunner Arash. The HD version is breathtaking in its detail.
Love the BG and the take-off pose and the direct gaze. Of course, the prey in the talon is none too shabby as well!
I wish the perch wasn't so dominant as it tends to drag the eye down.
I am really happy that you are enjoying the new lens. Keep showing us the fruits of your hard work!!

Arash - the HD version is just incredible. The stare, prey and your usual excellent techs all combine for a great image.

A magnificent capture. I agree with the others re. the shrubbery; it is a bit distracting.

Just sensational, Arash. I've been viewing your new 600mm posts with great interest, am practically drooling at the idea of possessing this lens, and you've been showing how it can help you to even (somehow!) exceed your previous achievements. I am interested to know how it is that it feels lighter than the 500mm even though it isn't; you had written that in an earlier post. Let me know if you've talked about that in another post/review somewhere, or plan to. Thanks!

Hey Melissa,
I will write a field review soon but yup it is 3.2 Oz heavier than the old 500 but because it is taller and wider it "feels" less heavy in your hands. I can hold it up at eye level for longer periods than I could with the 500 I think it's the weight balance. It is also appears to grab focus better on these raptors against varied BGs. It is the ultimate birding lens IMO!
