Sweet wing position and pose. Was this from a horizontal capture. DO not understand why the bird is so high in the frame.... Is this a post-breeding bird starting to molt? Cool on the fish.

This is indeed a post-breeding bird starting to molt. I was out at the nesting colony about 10 days previous to shooting this image and when I returned there was a marked difference in plummage on most of the adult birds. On the crop - yes, cropped from horizontal. I scratched my head on the way to best crop this - the bird is basically squarish because of the wing position, with lots of blue around it - it could be placed in either orientation anywhere in the frame. I am open to suggestions on the crop...

Great light and love the angelic pose. Crop-wise I'd go for less at bottm and more left and right. Did you need to lift the shadows on the belly?

Quite the opposite - the low-on-the-horizon sun was being diffused by low lying fog and I actually had to expand the lower end of the histogram to get a black point. The blacks do lack some detail, but I think that is more a result of trying to tame the ISO-1600 noise.
