    Default American River Otter

    Hi and hello,
photographed this River Otter in Seward (Alaska) at a pond in this little town.Even the otter family lived in an area where humans were present more or less all the time it was quite difficult to get close to them.I was in town only a short time ,so the chances have been quite small to get decent shots. There was a boardwalk along some parts of the pond, but the shooting angle was quite steep, not what i wanted. As long as i was staying on boardwalk, they were quite relaxed, but then i moved to the pond edge and they were moving to the opposite side of the pond. After a while they got more or less used to my presence and finally i got some more or less decent shots. the result is shown here.It was pooring rain all day and i was lying in some kind of mud to get this shot .
Hope you like it, C&C welcome as always.

    Cheers Andreas

    Andreas,
To my mind the major nit here is the head angle, too much look up from the Otter. Nevertheless a nice image, colour looks OK to me.

Hi Andreas, a good result in less than ideal conditions, although it does add/convey atmosphere with the rain streaks. Like the low angle, always a good bet, nice FG leading the eye to the subject. Good detail & clarity. If you have it, personally I might crop slightly tighter.

Beautiful light and colors. I like the raindrops and the pose of the otter. I might darken the stones in the foreground a bit.

    Andreas,
You got a nice low angle and head on view of the otter for this shot. I also like how you got him in between the stands of grass. The raindrops add some nice mood to the photo but I do think it's a touch warm. I'd cool the BG down a touch and I also like Markus's suggestion about darkening the FG stones a touch.

Andreas I like the low angle, wet fur and the streaky rain here...wish the head wasn't tilted that far up but not a deal-breaker.
I agree with Steve on a tighter crop
