We had a mini-fallout of sorts this week and a number of birds showed up. I made 1800 images in two days. These included a pair of male Scarlet Tanagers in very shiny new plumage.
Unfortunately during processing I found that the sRGB color space used for the web cannot display the true color of this bird accurately. It looks fine in AdobeRGB1998 but the color shifts to the orange side when converting and saving to the web, even if I alter the colors first before saving.
I tried copying and pasting the image into Ps and the colour jumped back nicely- partly colour shift and partly saturation. Bright red birds like this are tough. Vermillion Flycatcher is another example. Cardinals tend to be a slightly different red that is easier to render digitally.
I pulled this into PS as well. There is a dramatic color shift away from orange. This is odd as it's the same image being viewed in the same color space. Anyone know what's going on? Shouldn't a browser and PS display sRGB the same?
The pose and colors looks ok to me. The only thing I see is that the perch is blocking too much of the lower part of the bird. The meal is a nice plus.
Love the shot - bird is nicely offset from the background. Incidentally, when I download and import the image into PS and compare to the image in firefox, I do not see any color change.
