    Default Eastern Rosella

Quick bird hunt this afternoon before more rain set in, found this Rosella snacking on some orange flowers, he didn't stay long ...as usual but rattled off maybe 1/6 doz shots before he departed as well as a small Honeyeater species. A fairly common Rosella species here, but generally the hardest to get near are my findings, very alert and shy.

Very dull weather with rain imminent, under shade of a tree, managed to sneak up on this one and got quite close by keeping a tree between myself and the bird, maybe about 20 feet or less....quite a lot of colour noise showing sadly.

Canon 7D + 500 f4 + 1.4 x TC....700mm, f7.1, i/250, ISO 800, -0.3EV....flash used, hand held by leaning lens against tree trunk.....tiny crop to tidy leaves on edges, but decided to leave the rest of flowers and foliage in

    Phil:

A riot of colors here for sure. Nice flash use. I like how the flower colors play with those of the bird.

To my eye, the bird isn't quite sharp on the face/eye region.

I would remove the thin red thread exiting the frame from upper left flower.

    Pleasant BG color.

    Cheers

Phil beautiful colors and BG..head looks very soft and agree with Randy about removing the red thread...This one deserves another attempt of PP to make it better.

Very beautiful bird. Good points by the others, a little more sharpening on the head and this is fantastic. Love all the colors in this including the BG.

This is a colorful bird! I guess you had some saturation challenges during PS. Really nice flash work . Love the flower eating, colors, the comp and BG. I find the eye a bit soft. Well done.

Agree about the sharpening and it looks like you just did not get focus, but if you can sharpen, it is a real winner!

No, not really any color problems in PS, color is as it was straight off camera. Agree about the eye, but sharpening created more noise so it wasd a toss up between sharper or grainier...cheers Lorant

Everything in the photo works well together. I agree that a little more sharpening on the face and maybe noise reduction on the background would be the only adjustments I would try, but looks good the way it is.

A gorgeous riot of colors indeed. bg, framing, flowers, subtle head turn, it has it all.
Very nice flash work. Incredibly beautiful bird. It is a bit soft, but it's so good that it does deserve some TLC.

Marvelous colours here, although not entirely sharp, still remarkable

I would like to see more space around the bill, cheerful bright colors.
