    Default Bateleur, Kruger NP

Took this shot during a raptor tour in SA in Kruger NP from a car. The eagle (Bateleurs are related to the Snake Eagles from an evolutionary point of view) was very calm and tame.

    Taken with EOS 7D, 4/300L IS, 1.4x, ISO 800, 1/640 and f5.6

With this light, noise was acceptable with the 7D.

the leading experts on the species:

    Markus,
This picture is so so nice but how I miss seeing the feet.
The feather detail, the gorgeous eye and light are superb.
Love the look back and the BG.

I too feel that the lack of feet hurt what is otherwise a beautiful image. Color and detail all there. Might just tone down the BG a bit.

I agree with all of the above. Incredibly sharp image with nice feather detail but I miss the feet and would also tone down the bg.

I too agree with all the replies posted so far, and I would like a bit more room on the left, But what gorgeous colors and image quality!

Killer pose, details, d-o-f, head angle, and bird. Only two things missing .

Apart from the missing feat this is as near to perfect as you can get from my favourite raptor.

Hi Markus, great angle shooting from a car, and you exposed this fellow so well. Good DOF, and I do like the various layers of feathers visible. You captured a nice pose too.

Excellent shot. Superb feather detail, love the pose, great background, and exposed very well. Nits already mentioned.
    Very well done.
