    Default Yellowstone Wolf

    Hi all,
one of the rare occasions to get a close view of an wild wolf ,mainly for tourist photographers like i am.I got lucky to see this one as part of a whole wolf pride in Yellowstone NP,even it was only short time i was totally excited.I have seen in 10 days about 20 wolves ,including at kill. But in all cases something like 250 to 400 meters away, so i was more than happy to see this wolf.I was following the wolf ,including i do not know how many other cars, along the road.Jumped out of the car ,positioned the lens on the roof of the car waiting for the wolf to pass by.There was big traffic jam ,like in Kruger NP if there is a lion close to the road.
Finally i managed to get some shots, not the best or spectacular ones ,but at least i got some !!! Made me more than happy.
IQ is not the best, but i hope you like it.

    Canon EOS 1D III
    EF 500 L IS + 1,4 TC
    HH supported by car roof

    F 5,6 / 1/250 sec / ISO 800 I know i should have used other setting ,but too late

Processed in DPP + PS 75 % of FF

C&C as always welcome and appreciated.

I like the black version of these wolves a lot. You exposed him very nicely, Andreas. Was he molting/shedding fur?
It seems like your blurred the BG grasses a bit? Rather evident above his back?

I always find it fascinating that people can just get out of their cars in Yellowstone...but then again I just came from Mana Pools where it's also allowed, and I loved it!

    Hi Morkel,
thanks for watching,no blurring applied, just ran Neat image on smooth areas.!!
I do not know if molting is the right word, but yes rest of winter fur were hanging in parts of the wolf.I was there in May /June so in spring.

Lovely portrait, Andreas. You were so lucky to have this opportunity. I see a very slight green cast in the wolf. I would be very happy with this photo.

Hi Andreas, nice to see these highly intelligent animals and in an environment other than snow. Would agree with Morkel, he/she looks like they are molting. Based on the grass, was this taken early morning? Knowing how you work in your workflow and trying to balance the colour, but see what happens when you reduce the cyan in the whites, perhaps that might also address Marina's point?

Andreas - sounds like you were very fortunate with your wolf sightings. Nice clear view of him and good IQ. I also see the slight green cast.

Thank you folks, for watching and commenting. After i followed your suggestions i took the image back into PS,and checked the color.Ok there is a slight cast.So here is an RP , i hope it is reduced.
    Cheers Andreas
Steve it was a beautiful sunny morning, but the sun was behind a ridge of a hill ,where the wolf was coming from.So i got lucky with lighting conditions with this black fella, and yes the wolf is molting of the rest of the winter fur.

Difficult to tell on the laptop Andreas, but feel it is an improvement.

The reason for saying about early morning, I got the impression there was dew on the grass, but thanks for the clarification, it does help.

    cheers
