This fledgling Great Horned Owl was photographed stretching its wings for about 20 minutes before it actually fledged right before my eyes. What a sight it was to witness. Its sibling had fledged the day before, and I was afraid upon arriving that this one would have flown the coop as well. Much to my surprise and excitement, the sibling had returned to the nest for some coaxing and coaching. There was a lot of wind this particular morning. I wish that I had used my 1.4 instead of my 2.0. b/c I ended up sacrificing some speed and a few frames. Hindsight is of course 20/20, but it was a good lesson.

C & C always welcomed and much appreciated.

This is one amazing shot, Marina. One of the best of this species I have ever seen. The light, eye contact, pose and the wing position are superb.

I've never seen a juvi Barred Owl, but you did great with frame Marina! Fantastic pose and nice eye contact. The light angle is just right. Amazing how large the talons are for such a young bird.

    Marina:

Lovely shot with nice lighting, eye contact, great looking perch, techs.

What a treat to see them fledge.

I generally find hind sight closer to 20/20

    Cheers

Wonderful image Marina. These owls are fun to photograph. Terrific job. Only problem I see is that I don't have a photo like this on any of my hard drives. *=P

To get one on this perch, in the open and with this pose is pretty much a lifer.
Glad you had the opportunity and made the most of it.

What I like about the shot Marina, apart from all the kudos above is your title, only a woman would come up with one such as that.
